January 14, 2020 is the official end-of-life support date for the Windows 7 operating system.
After this date Microsoft ceases to support Windows 7 and the Internet Explorer browser.
- No more technical support
- No more software updates
- No more security updates
Windows 7 computers will not stop functioning however it does mean that Windows 7 computers can very quickly become vulnerable to malware and cyber security attacks and that puts your business at risk.
Put into context, since April 2019 Microsoft has patched 29 vulnerabilities in Windows 7. 6 of those patches rated as critical and 23 were rated as important. This illustrates the number of exploits that continue to arise and the effort Microsoft puts into addressing vulnerabilities.
Cyber criminals will be targeting computers using Windows 7 and/or the Internet Explorer browser.
The best way forward is to upgrade your computer to Windows 10 as soon as possible.
- Upgrade your computers to Windows 10 or
- Upgrade to Microsoft 365 which includes Windows 10 and all of your Microsoft upgrades
Not all computers will be able to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 so compatibility will need to be checked.
