About Us

Metro. Delivering great services to those who work in challenging environments and regulated industries.

Metro delivers reliable, cutting-edge IT tools and solutions for organisations that operate in challenging environments and regulated industries.

Environments that are cold, hot, humid, dry, dusty, wet, clean, dirty, explosive, toxic, sterile, remote, noisy, dangerous. Work where the worker needs their hands on the tools, not on a computer. From a field to a factory or a furnace. A pipeline to a pump room or a pharmaceutical plant. A clean room to a carbon capture mine to a chemical factory. Everything the traditional office is not.

Workers in those challenging environments have historically been digitally disconnected from the organisation in their normal working environment effectively rendering them as unable to fully contribute to, or benefit from, advances in digital technology and cur off from digital transformation initiatives.

Why ? Because tools didn't exist that would survive in those environments. And if they were able to survive they weren't able to operate in a way that was easy for those workers to use.

Things have changed.

The market for ruggedised computers and rugged wearable computers is increasing at pace now with head mounted tablet computers leading the way for workers who need their hands on the job. These voice controlled, hands free computers are revolutionising the way work gets done and are transforming organisations around the world.

Saving them time and money, increasing customer satisfaction and providing attractive training and work support tools that attracts and helps retain great employees.

Metro knows the technologies well and can help organisations benefit from these developments. Helping them to transform their organisation by connecting workers who have historically been digitally disconnected in their daily work. To help make that happen Metro offers a supportive wrap of products, services and applications that adds real value to our customers.

From Consulting services to help your organisation fully exploit these technologies through to connectivity solutions and applications.

METRO AND SOCIAL VALUE

Social value: Economic development
Metro is based in South Dorset in England, a beautiful area that is economically challenged. Job opportunities in our region are often seasonal which forces a number of local people to leave their home town in order to find work. We want to help change that. When Metro has job opportunities then we will prioritise local people and offer flexible terms that fits both the needs of the individual and the company. We're not interested in a discussions about equal rights because our interest is in offering the job to the best person for the job, whoever they are. We're not interested in discussions about race, gender etc. We are interested in being the best and working with the best - whoever that person is. However if there are 2 people equally suitable for a job and one has served in the Armed Forces then the job will be offered to the individual who has served in the Armed Forces.

Social value: Serving the community
Metro is committed to being a force for good in the communities we serve. That includes coming to the assistance of and working with local community groups, like Planet Purbeck who are focused on nature restoration, who we have helped with some drone filming. We will continue to serve the local community and support local organisations such as supporting local schools and charities.

Social value: Working with other businesses
Collaboration benefits everyone and our focus is on long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships. Metro operates globally and collaborates with companies from many countries. Niche companies who are often the world leader in their target sectors. Aside from those companies, wherever possible Metro will work with, and purchase from, local companies.

Social value: Responsible business practices
Metro is committed to the highest possible business practices specifically regarding :

  • Paying invoices

  • Bribery and

  • Environmental Sustainability

  • Disintermediation

Paying invoices - We will pay the full amount of agreed invoice and pay them on time.

Bribery - An unwelcome truth that many do not talk about is that some individuals in some UK organisations will only contract suppliers in return for bribes or benefits in kind. It is extremely difficult to prove this and organisations will always deny that this happens. However many have experienced it. Metro will never offer a bribe or benefits in kind or accept one. However if we encounter such a situation then we will refuse to work with you and will communicate that to your Board of Directors. If you experience such behaviour from a Metro employee then we will act.

Environmental sustainability - Metro will engage in programmes we trust that seeks to reduce carbon emissions, cut environmental damage and increase the restoration of nature. Public transport is our the preferred mean of getting from A to B. Using environmentally sustainable consumables and re-cycling is a perfect fit with our values. Our energy consumption should be as close as possible to 100% renewable energy.

Disintermediation - Trust is important. An increasingly recent trend is for businesses to become increasingly opaque about their commercial operating models. Specifically vendors and their distributors competing against their own channel partners or taking direct action in a market that effectively cuts out and limits the possibilities for authorised resellers to do business. If Metro creates a channel model then it will stick to it and not disintermediate our channel partners. We'll set our partners up to succeed and if things are going to change then we will discuss that with them. Conversely if the companies we are authorised resellers for, behave in a way that seeks to, or does, disintermediate Metro then our default position will be to cease doing business with them because they have failed to deserve our trust.

Skills and training
Metro only wants to work with the best so training and development is a high priority. As a starting point every Metro employee will be a competent 1st aider.
